I started the night full of energy and hope. I had done my research and was attacking my "strange idle issues". My car doesn't seem to engage a warm up mode. At cold startup it goes right for 750RPM and often fails unless I give it gas. Once its warm it runs fine. I started down the list; temp sensor, TPS, Vacuum lines, AAC Valve and air regulator. I got just passed temp sensor and TPS when I noticed my alternator was shot. Back in March I installed a new alternator. Seems odd that this one would pop after 5 short months. I pull the alternator to discover the pivot bolt and top of alternator covered in oil. I had this problem once before on my 90n/a. The front main seal was bad. Oil dripped into alternator till the alternator no longer worked. I remember the work done at a dealer and it being expensive. Onto my question: Should I pay to have the work done, or should I pull the motor and fix it myself? The obvious advantage to pulling motor is I get to fix, delete and upgrade items at will. I am semi mechanically able and would love to try it myself. From what I know about my motor, its in great working order. It has 144K. My long term goals for my car were 400-450 RWHP with all supporting mods. I love my Z and plan to never part with it. What kind of a headaches am I looking at? Bernie, and others, I'd love to pick your brains via e-mail if you are willing. NJ Z'ers, anyone willing to volunteer their expertise and service for the future? Thanks for reading and all questions and comments are welcome. Sean
